Hyundai IONIQ Smart Key Programming in Tradition
Programmed a Hyundai IONIQ smart key on-site in Tradition — modern Hyundai platform, mobile driveway service.

A Tradition IONIQ owner needed a replacement smart key after the original went through a washing machine. Modern Hyundai smart keys are more resilient than their predecessors, but a full wash cycle is enough to corrode the internal contacts past recovery. We arrived with the correct part-number smart key for the vehicle's model year and trim.
Newer Hyundai and Kia platforms use a strong immobilizer and passive-entry system that require the correct programmer profile. Older tooling that worked on 2010-era Hyundai will not touch a current IONIQ session — the security handshake changed. We connected to the OBD-II port with an updated Hyundai-capable programmer and entered the platform's key-add sequence.
The programming session paired the new smart key to the vehicle, verified push-to-start, and confirmed passive entry at each door and the tailgate. The IONIQ also uses an electronic remote park-assist feature on select trims; we verified that function did not get disturbed during the programming session, which is a common check on modern Hyundais.
As always, we tested the existing surviving key at the end of the session. On Hyundai/Kia platforms, correctly executed programming leaves prior keys untouched — but the check confirms it, and gives the customer a documented before/after.
For a Tradition customer, this was a same-day, driveway-only job. The alternative — a dealer trip for a Hyundai smart-key programming appointment — would have meant an unavailable vehicle for at least a week.
Project highlights
- Correct-part-number IONIQ smart key on the truck
- Updated Hyundai-capable programmer for the current platform
- Push-to-start and passive entry verified per door
- Existing surviving key confirmed still functional
