Gate Keypad Lock Installation and Service in PGA Village

Installed and serviced a weatherized keypad lock on a PGA Village side gate — reliable code entry through Florida sun and rain.

Weatherized gate keypad installed on a PGA Village side gate by St Lucie Lock and Key.

A PGA Village property owner wanted a pool-service and landscaping crew to get through a side gate on scheduled days without handing out a key, and without running low-voltage cable across the yard to a full access-control system. The right solution was a weatherized standalone gate keypad — battery-powered, code-based, and specifically rated for outdoor exposure.

Not every keypad lock survives Florida weather. UV degrades cheap plastic keypads inside two summers, and salt in the air pits contact springs on unrated hardware. We specified a keypad with a sealed silicone or metal button face, gasketed body, and drainage path so condensate cannot pool inside the housing. That single spec decision is the difference between a five-year install and an annual replacement.

Installation started at the gate hardware itself. A gate keypad is only as good as the frame it lives on — if the gate racks, the latch will not seat, and no amount of programming fixes it. We shimmed the strike, adjusted the hinge tension so the gate closed on its own, and confirmed the latch centered in the pocket before mounting the keypad.

Codes were programmed for the owner, the pool crew and the landscaper — each a distinct PIN so any one can be revoked without disturbing the others. We also demonstrated the on-lock code-change process so the owner can rotate the crew codes seasonally without a service call.

The customer walked away with a laminated code sheet stored inside the garage, a labeled battery-change reminder, and a working gate that opens on a PIN and re-locks by itself on the way out.

Frequently Asked Questions

Answers to the questions our Port St. Lucie customers ask most.

Will a keypad lock survive Florida sun and rain?
Only if it is actually rated for outdoor use. We specify sealed, gasketed hardware with UV-stable keypads — the generic indoor units on the internet do not last a summer here.
Do I have to run wire to the gate?
No. Standalone gate keypads run on batteries — no trenching, no low-voltage cable, no controller.
Can each vendor have their own code?
Yes. Each vendor gets a unique PIN, and any single PIN can be deleted or rotated without affecting the others.
