We install smart locks all over Port St. Lucie, and the two communities we get asked about the most are St. Lucie West and PGA Village. They look similar on paper but the right lock for each is different — mostly because of how the community handles guests, and how strong the home Wi-Fi typically is.
St. Lucie West — code-first, guest-heavy
St. Lucie West homes turn over guests fast: cleaners, dog walkers, kids, contractors. That makes a keypad-first lock the winner. Our default recommendation here is the Yale Assure Lock 2 with Wi-Fi module or the Schlage Encode. Both let you issue and expire time-based codes without an app on the visitor's phone.
PGA Village — reliability-first, retrofit-friendly
PGA Village has more full-time and snowbird residents who want the mechanical deadbolt to keep working exactly as it always has, plus phone-based unlocking when they arrive back for the season. The August Wi-Fi Smart Lock is a strong pick — it retrofits over the existing deadbolt, keeps your current keys, and adds app control without changing the exterior look.
Wi-Fi and range considerations
St. Lucie West homes on the larger lots off California Blvd sometimes struggle to reach the front door with a single router. If that is your situation, choose a lock that speaks Matter or Zigbee to a mesh hub, not one that needs direct Wi-Fi. In PGA Village, HOA-approved mesh systems make Wi-Fi locks reliable — but confirm the router is on the same floor as the front door.
What we recommend against
Anything cloud-only with no mechanical key backup. Batteries die, apps fail, Wi-Fi drops. Every smart lock we install in Port St. Lucie keeps a working key override — always.
